#StalkHerStyle Friday Link up - Wearing Black in Summer

I know everyone is sick to death of us Perth-ites talking about our mini heatwave, but OMG, honestly, we are all completely melting.

Naturally the only colour to be wearing in plus-40 degree heat is black.  WHAT?  I hear you cry!  Why on earth would you be wearing black?  Well, I'll tell you, dear readers.  Here are my really good reasons why black is the only colour to wear in the heat.

Black hides sweat marks.
Ugh, gross, I know.  But it really does minimise the "glow" through your clothes on a really hot day.  I hate seeing sweaty arm pit marks and, even worse, sweaty arse cracks through pants (sorry!) so get in your black and glow away.

It actually keeps you cool.
Apparently, black is actually a very cool colour to wear in the heat - there's some serious science-y shit to back this up.  However, based on the fact that Bedouin tents, and their robes are black, I want you to just believe me that wearing black (as long as it's loose, and really, who wants to wear tight clothes in the heat?) is just as cooling as any other colour.  Great news, hey?

Black has a naturally higher SPF than white.
Again, there's research to prove this.  White has an SPF of around 7, whereas black can be up to SPF50 - how awesome is that?

It makes you look cool.
Sorry, but it's true. When you feel like your brain is melting and the thought of outfit planning makes you want to lie naked in front of the air conditioning unit, then reach for black.

Our lovely Flat Bum Mum has some tips on wearing black in the summer successfully.

Sara, from Harper and Harley is a great fan of black in summer, too.

Link up your personal style post from this week and show me what you've been wearing!  Stalkherstyle is a resource to style inspiration and a great way to get your blog a little extra exposure.

  3. You wear black in summer well! it's funny because I'm wearing black in the post I linked up too - I tend to wear things year-round, although I definitely wear the darker colours more in winter.

    Thanks for the link up!

  4. That heat wave hit Brisbane last week. So humid! I'm not a huge fan of black but love it as a backdrop to an awesome pop of colour. Looks great on you.

    1. Thanks, though I think one of the keys is to show a little flesh otherwise black can be a bit overwhelming.
