How to be a Grown Up at the beach, featuring holster

It's a rare thing that you get to sit on the beach and not get sand kicked in your face, be asked constantly for something to eat and told that you have to come in the sea and play chasey.  Grown up beach time is something rare and so divine, it should be savoured like a good Sauv.

Beach time essentials are usually a huge vat of sunscreen, 42 towels and enough water to fill a tropical fish tank.  Without the children, these essentials can be pared down to the most minimal of pieces - a great bag, thongs, reading material and a couple of keep cool basics.

I don't like to get too much sun so I usually take a white shirt to throw on when it gets too hot.  Add in a facial mist, like this one from Sukin, and I can happily sit on the beach for hours.

The day trip large bucket bag from holster is the perfect size for a solo trip to the beach, accompanied by the rather glamorous Pandora thongs, I'm set for a very grown up beach trip. (Stylist tip - psst!  I've just noticed that the thongs are currently half price at holster, so get on it quick!)

What are your grown up beach day essentials - did I miss anything out?

holster bag and thongs were gifted to me for editorial consideration, which involved me swanning around on the beach feeling just a little bit glam!

  1. I can't imagine a solo, glamourous trip to the beach (I still have three under 12 here at home with me!). But I can't think of anything else now you've shared your experience. I hope you had an awesome time Vicki!

  2. I need my kindle, my beach chair, my music and my bottle of water. My kids can play as long as they want if I have all these things.

    1. Great list of essentials - I never bring a book when I have the kids with me, they don't give me a minute's peace!

  3. I get restless on my own at the beach. I do enjoy having lunch looking over the water though. It's very peaceful.

    1. I just love being on my own, lol. It's such a different place on the beach when you don't have to keep an eye on three kids.

  4. I need head to toe covering, an enormous hat and vats of 50 plus sunscreen and I STILL get burnt. Not fair! Actually I AM fair, that's why I get burnt! The thongs and bag are GORGEOUS.

  6. I'm pretty sure I would have been in my 20s the last time I took a trip to the beach on my own and it would have been far from glamorous. Might need to do something about that.

  7. I'm not a beach person but will happily take that collection of things to, um, well, just about anywhere on my own! Love the shirt and bag, and can't go anywhere without reading material. x #teamIBOT

  8. I prefer to go to the beach with the family. I'm not the sort of person who can just sit at the beach; I want to swim and chat with friends and go for walks up and down it. :)
