Perth Life - Subiaco Farmers Market

A couple of weeks before Christmas I was lucky enough to get a tour of one of Perth's finest farmers markets, held every Saturday at Subiaco Primary School.

The markets start at 8am but I didn't get there until around 10am, and amazingly I got a parking spot straight away.  In Subi.  On a Saturday morning.  What a great start to a great morning.

Subiaco Farmers Markets is one of Perth's longest established markets, first starting back in  2009.  It's  not-for-profit organisation and donates all of its profits to the school who host it - how cool is that?

At Subi markets you'll find a whole host of healthy goodies just waiting to help you keep on the straight and narrow with your new year goals.  The fresh fruit and veg is a sight to behold and there are a huge number of stallholders selling really original produce from fermented sauerkraut to fresh almond milk.

I'm not much of a food wanker to be perfectly honest, but it was amazing to try all the different things that the stalls had on offer. (insider tip #1 - ask ANY of the stallholders for a taste and they are always obliging.  I seriously didn't meet one grumpy person all morning!).

I was lucky enough to have my photographer with me which left me hands free to indulge in all the tastings - poor Ruben, haha!  My photographer for the day was my 11 year old son who did an amazing job.  So much so that he was rewarded for his endeavours with hot chocolate and "the best bacon sandwich" - his words, not mine.

We hung out, drank coffee, enjoyed the music from the school band that were playing, and pretended to be hipsters.

Even if you're not a hipster and don't feel the need to photograph and instagram everything you see, you'll find lots to keep you (and the kids) busy at Subi markets. (insider tip #2 - bring your doggie, and get him some fabulous treats and a dog wash, too!).

Subi farmers markets are on every Saturday, starting 9th January, from 8am til noon.  There's actually plenty of parking, lots of it free, nearby too.

Check out the photos by my son - didn't he do a great job?  Obviously the one of him enjoying the bacon sandwich is by me :)

Will I see you on the 9th January?  You'll find me hanging out at the Coffee Shack!

I love getting comments!
