5 under $50 - Autumn Winter Wardrobe Planning

Ok, it's been a while since I've done a 5 under $50 post.  In fact, it could well be over a year ago.  Nonetheless, the sheer size of all of the online sales at the moment got me thinking that there are loads of things we could buy now and squirrel away until Autumn.  Yes, I like to be organised and I like a bargain, so let's go!

The Boots.
Knee high boots are going to be a big trend in the cooler months.  Wear with a midi skirt for those equestrian feels, or team with jeans for the ultimate weekend styling.

These ones from Spurr are a great buy and I love the zip detail around the top.  Choose the colour that will work with your closet best (I'd probably go black) and feel smug when you pull these out on the first day of Autumn.  The block heel is still a big trend, too, and these are the perfect height for wearing all day long.

The Waistcoat.
I'm predicting a spate of androgynous dressing thanks to the legend that is David Bowie.  Men's ties, waistcoats and high waisted trousers will all get a look in when the cool weather hits.

This waistcoat from Marks and Spencer is a snip at $24 and would make a really versatile addition to your wardrobe. (Stylist Tip: wear it over your strappy summer dresses now for a boho feel)

The Knit.
Nothing says Autumn like an oversized cosy knit.  I love ones that are so big they can double as a blanket.  Belt it over your outfit if you feel the need for more structure, or wear it loose with heels and skinnies for the ultimate in relaxed glamour.

The Heel.
If 2015 was the year of the pompom, I think 2016 will be the year of the cage.  Caged gladiators have been around for a while, but we're going to see more and more as the year goes on.  These ones from Bellini are now half price and a great way to dip your toe into the trend.

Osaka Caged Heel, half price at $49.95, The Iconic^

The Bag.
Ladylike, structured bags that are handheld are going to be massive.  Well, actually they'll be fairly moderately sized but they are going to be a huge trend.

Choose one in a bright colour if you're feeling the need for a colour pop, or go neutral to keep things simple.

Do you shop ahead for the coming season?

Did you catch my post about how to wear sheer to keep cool in the summer?

  1. I wish I was able to shop out of season but I can't get past that mental block of even contemplating woolly knits when it's 40 degrees outside! (Also the lack of instant gratification, if I buy something cute I want to wear it right away!) Spurr are great value though and I'll be checking those boots out.

    1. Vicki, I was just thinking about your fashionomics Friday linkup. Is this still happening in 2016? I'm hoping to drag Beth along for the ride on my next style challenge and thought we could tie your linkup in? Perhaps a little three way action for this one ;)

  2. I'm no good at shopping ahead. I usually shop in the sales for the season just past! But having seen your suggestions (and loving them) I think you've prompted me to be more organised. Thank you x

  3. How beautiful are those shoes!!! Love them.
I just got the most gorgeous boots from Macy's at my recent trip to the USA. The after Christmas sales were very kind. Cost me $49.99. Can't wait to get them out in our Aussie autumn

    1. I get very excited when I score that kind of bargain Leanne!

I love getting comments!
