Spring Racing Beauty - Tips to put you ahead of the pack

In an ideal world, we would all have an army of fabulous minions that, before an event, do our hair, mani & pedi, choose the perfect outfit, etc, etc.  Unfortunately for the majority, getting Event Ready is a solo expedition, but it doesn't have to be hard work.  Put in a little ground work early doors and reap the benefits on Race Day, when you're way ahead of the pack.

Start your skincare prep now.
  • Make sure that you're exfoliating every time you shower and use lashings of body lotion afterwards.
  • Home facials are a great way to give your skin an extra boost, so invest in a quality facial exfoliator and mask and fit them into your beauty routine twice a week.
  • Improve the results of your skincare routine by adding in a booster oil to your evening moisturiser.
  • Up your water intake now.  Dehydrated skin does not make a great base for make-up so make sure your is plump and hydrated.

Trial a couple of self-tan options.

  • No-one wants a tandoori-bright tan, but then pasty white limbs don't always show your outfit off to its best effect, so somewhere in the middle is what you're aiming for.
  • If you have a tried and tested tan that you love then now is not the time to try something new.
  • If you don't then borrow a few from girlfriends and test them out before you invest.
  • Preparation is key, of course, with self tanning, so you're already backing a winner if you're exfoliating as mentioned above.
  • Fake tan on the face can be ageing so I tend to add colour to my face with bronzer instead.

Sort out your nails.

  • I've made a pact with myself to stay away from gel nails.  As amazing as they look, my nails are fragile at the best of times and gel colours make them even more brittle.
  • Instead, I'm going to be using one of the new variety of "gel-like" polishes which make nails look glossier and plumper than regular polish, but don't damage your nails at all.
  • If you don't already, start using a cuticle cream and a hand cream at night time.  I went through a phase of wearing cotton gloves in bed over the top of my hand cream and my hands were amazing.  However, my husband didn't really like the idea of sleeping with someone channelling Michael Jackson, so I stopped wearing them.

Get a trim then do this sneaky trick.

  • If you're in need of a trim, now is a great time to go.
  • Take you fascinator/head piece with you and when your hair is finished, ask the hairdresser a bit of advice on how to wear your hair on the day.
  • Think about getting a colour gloss done on your hair to give it a little extra oomph.  A cheaper option is to use one of the many colour enhancing shampoos on the market to brighten your blonde and make your red hair radiant.

Think about your make-up now.

  • If you haven't started thinking about your make-up, then what the hell have you been doing?? I plan my make up as I plan my outfit - meticulously and well in advance.  Yes, I may seem like a control freak, but the more I plan, the less I leave to chance and the less likely I am to have to reapply my face 5 times.
  • The best look, in my opinion, is a glowy natural one that is going to last the day.  Too much eye shadow will have a tendency to fade as the day goes on, and (unless you're wearing super long wear hippie) bright lipsticks need constant attention if you're drinking and eating.
  • If I'm honest, this is the one area I would LOVE to outsource - although I know what make up suits me, a professional make-up artist has the know how to make your face last all day long.
  • Plan your beauty bringalongs now - no matter how well applied your make up is, you'll need to bring a few products with you for the day.  Next week, I'll have the ultimate carry-ons for your Spring Racing clutch bag.

These are some of the products I'll be using in my Spring Racing beauty prep.  I've been using all of them for a few weeks now and getting amazing results.
If you're in Perth and you want to get some more help with getting Event Ready, then join me for an afternoon of styling and fun at Jonte's Studio on 31st October.  Just send me an email, and I'll add you to our guest list!  There are prizes galore, too, and amazing cupcakes.

Are you doing anything fabulous for Melbourne Cup, or the other carnivals?  What does your beauty routine involve?
