The Dyson V6 Review - the good, the rad and the downright awesome

With three children, two big hairy dogs and one hatred of housework, you better not turn up at my place unannounced.  Of course, I love to have my friends over for coffee and a gossip, but they know they have to call first, otherwise they may have to wade through a hallway of discarded socks and sneakers and pretend they don't notice the balls of dog fluff wafting past.

Oh, and if you ask me for a lift, you better give me five minutes to brush the sand off the seats and hide all the Tiny Teddy wrappers.

Well, all that is about to change.

When Dyson asked if I'd like to review the new Dyson V6 cordless, to say I jumped at the chance is an understatement.  It was more of a rapturous trampoline display of epic proportions.

A few other bloggers and I (mostly with dirty little tikes like mine, but some lifestyle bloggers who have to keep their uber white apartments spick and span) were invited to test drive the V6 Cordless at the Perth Food and Drink Show.

Lots of fun was had, lots of mess was made and cleaned up swiftly by the frankly awesome V6.

When I finally got my hands on one at home, the first thing that occurred to me is that "the kids are going to LOVE this"!  It looks more like a Nerf Gun than a vacuum cleaner and the kids couldn't wait to test it out - and who was I to stand in their way?

The three of them took turns to vacuum the downstairs of the house and then the battery ran out so we stuck it in the charging dock and took the dogs for a walk.

It occurred to me how AWESOME this vacuum was going to be for cleaning the car, which is normally in an even worse state than my house.  I hate cleaning the inside of the car - dragging the vacuum onto the drive, trying to find the extension lead that you know someone has "borrowed" and not put back.  Regular vacuums are just too cumbersome to get to all the nooks and crannies and those little hand held things have less suck than a toothless granny.

Of course, I blame the children entirely for the mess in my car - where we park at school is sandy in summer and muddy in winter and the thought of banging their shoes together before they get in is frankly alien to my three.

So, I set middle daughter to work on the car last week, and not only did she do it in the 20 minute battery time, she did a really great job too.  The V6 powered through the dust and sand and the MAX setting button on the top makes getting all of the dirt out of the seats a breeze.

The HEPA filter in the V6 ensures that you don't get a faceful of dusty air when you're using it, and the one touch emptying means it's never going to put back on charge full of dirt (it terrifies me how much dirt is in my carpets!).

There are a great range of attachments, too - the two main heads deal with carpets and hard floors, and there's a mini motorised head which worked great on the car seats, and a couple of others as well.

Look how easy it converts to a mini vacuum for using in the car!

The Dyson V6 Absolute really is quite perfect for us - I don't tend to vacuum the whole house in one go, so the battery time isn't a massive issue.  I love that I can grab it quickly and easily after "feeding time at the zoo" to clean under the table.....

The Dyson V6 is available at all major retailers in Australia at an RRP of $899.  I was gifted a V6 for trial - all opinions are my own.

Have you tested out the Dyson V6 Absolute yet?

  1. I'm hoping to be able to try one when they do the Brisbane event. It looks like it'd be perfect for us. With a toddler on the lose I rarely get even 20 minutes to vacuum at a time anyway so the battery life wouldn't be an issue here and I really want to try it on our stairs. I have a really big and bulky vacuum at the moment so a light portable one I can use on the stairs would make life so much easier.

  4. Love my Dyson cordless. It's perfect for our split level house, no dragging a heavy, wheeled contrivance up and down stairs and plugging into multiple sockets. The multi attachments are so handy!
