My Daily Make-up Routine for Work

When I'm not at work, my face is treated to a slather of Garnier Miracle cream, a swipe of blusher, a slash of mascara and not a lot else.  Working in customer service, though, means I have to look a little more presentable so I make a little more effort.

I'm well aware that sharing these close ups may be a little confronting for some - my skin is not wrinkle free and my teeth aren't perfectly white or straight.  But you have to work with what you've got and I'm pretty happy with the way my mush is ageing, so far.

The finished face - crinkles, eye bags and wonky teeth all on display!

My face still only takes around 5-10 minutes to do (and the difference is ALL in the eyeliner - get it wrong, it takes forever to correct).

These are the products I'm using.  All high street (except the blush, but I have alternatives, never fear) and all affordable.

-Starting with the Garnier Miracle Skin cream, which I wrote about last week.  It's my new favourite thing ever and leaves your skin post-orgasmically glowing.

-I then use a radiant BB cream from Rimmel which adds to the luminosity.  This is a little heavier than most BB creams I've tried and I'd be tempted to lump it in with the CC creams.  I'd say it's a light-medium foundation coverage.  It's wonderfully glowy but not greasy and I don't use any powder over it.

-My other skin basic is my concealer - Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer (my god, that's a mouthful!).  I love a twisty up concealer, nice and easy to apply in dots under my eyes then I use my ring fingers to gently blend it in.

-The blusher I've shown here is a Napoleon Perdis cream blush that was free on the front of a magazine yonks ago.  However, I would absolutely recommend Sportsgirl cream blushers.  They colour pay off is awesome and you need the teensiest little bit.  They are quite sheer once blended, though, and give a beautifully natural flush. They don't seem to be on the website but I'm sure they're still on sale.

- My eyebrows are shit.  There, I've said it.  I plucked them too thin in my youth and they've got their own back on me by never growing back in.  They are weirdly blonde, too.  I've always had to add some colour to them somehow but they always look horribly fake.  Until I discovered Maybelline Brow Drama.  It's like a coloured mascara for the brows and because it colours the hairs not the skin, it looks pretty natural.  The application takes a bit of practice to not get it all over your skin, but the results on me are fabulous.

-I always wear black eyeliner, always have done.  I know it's not the done thing for a woman over 40 - we should all be using softer grey or boring brown.  No thanks.  I don't feel like me without my black eyeliner.  My current crush is this Super Liner from L'oreal.  The brush is super fine so mistakes are easy to fix.  It lasts really well too, on my vaguely greasy eyelids.

-Mascara, how I love thee!  My other favourite beauty product is this Rimmel Scandal Eyes Rockin' Curves mascara (seriously, who comes up with these names?).  If they discontinue this, I'm going to be distraught.  It adds length, volume, intense colour - what more can I say?  I'm onto my third tube and that is unheard of for a product whore like me.

-Finally, I smudge a little of my chosen cream blush onto my lips and top with a Maybelline Babylips Loves Colour lip balm.  I have about ten thousand of these in various handbags in various colours and they are AMAZING.  My daughter stole my favourite one, which is a vibrant pink, and I've not managed to chase down another yet.  Honestly, they are amazing - moisturising with just a hint of colour and you don't need a mirror to reapply them. They're around five bucks a pop, too!

And that's that.  I don't like to use too many products (though my husband would now say why do I have drawers full of the bloody stuff then) and this simple look is polished enough for work but doesn't need re-touching all day long.

Do you use any of these products, too?

  1. Looking gorgeous Vicki. I'm just scrapping the bottom of the tube on my foundation, it's an expensive one but it has the most amazing coverage that I think I will be going back for more, or attempting to find something similar without the price tag.

    1. Thank you! Maybe I can help you find a more budget friendly alternative?

  2. You always look fabulous Vicki - I'm yet to try the Garnier Miracle cream (I've heard mixed reports) but I may just pop to Priceline today and give it a go! xx

    1. You need to give it a whirl Bev, it was on special this week in Coles so I grabbed a second tube!

  3. I've been using, and loving, the Garnier Miracle Cream and also the Rimmel BB Radiant Cream, which I also blogged about this week :)

They are both amazing, quick, easy and effective products!

I might have to try the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Rockin' Your Curves mascara next, after reading your review.

  4. I LOVE Maybelline baby lips! I also have a million different tubes floating around all of my handbags, they are just so good and so cheap!

  5. I use Rimmel's BB Cream too, but the matte version and I stock up when they're on sale...even though they're pretty affordable to begin with ;)

    1. I have the matte version too which I use on the rare occasion I go out of an evening!

  6. I have the Rimmel BB and I have been wearing it with powder. I like to make sure it stays in place all day. I'm over forty and love my black eyeliner too. You look gorgeous. Rachel x
