Mother's Day - what to buy the mum that's "left of centre"?

Mums, it's time to rejoice!  A day just for us, hopefully filled with cups of tea, breakfast in bed and gifts from the little people that we treasure the most.  Sometimes, though, it's nice to get something other than the same perfume as we always wear, or a "pretty" iPhone cover.  Sometimes, mums want something a bit different, a bit "left of centre".

And that's why all my Mothers' Day picks come from the more boutique businesses that I've drooled over on Instagram.  We can all pop down to the High Street or the local mall and pick something up when we're short on time (and money!), but here are my top gifts for the mum who enjoys a gift with more quirk and less Coles, and for when you've got a little more time to spend on mum.

From top left

1. Hand tooled leather clutch purse | BHO Bags and Purses | $150.
All the beautiful leather goods from this shop are handcrafted  in Western Australia, making them such a special present for any Aussie mum.

2. Bronze leaf necklace with sterling silver chain | Eden Dreams | $80.
Jenny, the designer and creator at Eden Dreams bases all of her designs on the natural world.   I love the mix of colours in this piece.

3. Merino wool glider dress | Empire Rose | reduced to $128.
This must be one of the most versatile winter dresses I've seen.  It would look amazing over leather-look leggings or skinny jeans.  I can imagine it would be so delightful to wear too, being made of supersoft merino wool.

4. Marina's Ambrosia Antioxidant Serum | Marina's Ambrosia | $29.95.
Show me a mum that's not worried about ageing!   Another product exclusively made in WA.  This all-natural serum features marine collagen to stimulate collagen production in the skin.  It also contains seaweed and fruit extracts to plump and nourish the skin.

5. Batucada necklace | Designer Showcase | $49.95.
This must be one of the most unusual necklaces I've seen.  It is made entirely of recycled rubber making it really lightweight and easy to wear.  I was lucky enough to be sent one of these necklaces by Designer Showcase and I've worn it a couple of times and received lots of comments asking where it was from.

The necklaces look great against bare skin as they almost mould themselves to your neckline, but I loved wearing mine over a contrasting colour, too.

This is mine which I wore to an afternoon hen party!

6. Pearl and African turquoise bracelet | Tania Claire | $120.
Isn't this bracelet just exquisite?  It's sterling silver and I'd wear it layered with other pieces for a really over the top look.

7. Brass button vintage bracelet | Designer Showcase | $30.
For a really special gift, how about a one of a kind bracelet made from vintage brass buttons?  Too cute!

8. Classic skull handbag | Gingerella Rox | $37.
Nothing adds an edge to an outfit like a bit of skull-action.  This handbag-come-clutch is understated enough to use everyday, too.  Gingerella Rox is a boutique in Clarkson with an in-house hairdresser and beautician - talk about a one stop shop for looking fabulous!

I hope I've inspired you to hunt down something a little extra special for mum this year - I'd be thrilled with any of these on Sunday morning (or just a cup of tea in bed, anyway).
